Lawrence Township Police are urging motorists to avoid Route 1 Southbound between Quakerbridge Road and I-295 due to emergency road work that is taking place near the Quaker Bridge Mall.

The roadwork has constricted traffic down to just one lane, and the entire area is severely backed up right now.

Officials are working to repair a gas leak, which was first reported around 2 am near the Mercer Mall. Both the north and southbound lanes of the roadway were affected as crews worked to make repairs in the area. The northbound lanes of Route 1 were reopened around 5 am on Tuesday.

There is no estimated time for restoration in the area of Route 1 South right now, but you can expect the delays to likely last through the morning rush hour.
