If you hear a loud "boom" at any point this Sunday, don't panic.

The Join Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst announced plans to conduct drills on Sunday, which are likely to result in loud sounds (similar "sonic booms"), and they are likely to be heard in parts of our area.

"Mortar live fire training is scheduled to take place between March 31, 2019, at 12 a.m. to April 1, 2019, at 12 a.m," the base announced on Friday. "If you tumble from your bed late at night from what sounds like "sonic booms"-- Don't freak out!"

A sonic boom is classified as "a loud explosive noise caused by the shock wave from an aircraft traveling faster than the speed of sound," and while these sounds won't be coming from an aircraft, it may sound similar.

The 42,000-acre military base is located 18 miles to the southeast of Trenton centered primarily in Burlington and Ocean counties. So, yes, we're likely to hear some sounds tomorrow.
