Gridlock Alert: Street Closures Announced for This Weekend’s Philadelphia Marathon
If you’re driving in and around Philadelphia this weekend, you can expect some serious gridlock across the city as marathon events will shut down some of the city’s biggest roads.
Events will kick off on Saturday with the Dunkin’ Munchkin Kids Fun Run, the Rothman Orthopedics 8K, and the Philadelphia Half Marathon. The weekend will culminate with the Philadelphia Marathon gets underway just before 7 am on Sunday (November 24).
Road closures will begin in earnest on Friday before streets across the city will be impacted on Sunday as the race gets underway.
Here’s a breakdown of some of the biggest impacts throughout the city:
- The Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be subject to closures Friday, November 22 through Sunday, November 24.
- The I-676 off-ramps at 22nd Street (westbound) and 23rd Street (eastbound) will be closed on Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24 at 4 a.m. for event security preparation. Ramps at 15th and Broad Streets may also close if needed.
- The I-76 off-ramp at Spring Garden (eastbound). Soft-close at 4 a.m. and hard-close at 6:15 a.m. on Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24.
Yes, this includes Kelly Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (on both days).
Additionally, street closures will be in effect for both the half and full marathon:
