Kanye West Performs “I Love It” With Lil Pump and More on ‘Saturday Night Live’
As promised, Kanye West guest starred as the musical guest for the Season 44 premiere of Saturday Night Live on Sept. 29.
While he didn't appear in any sketches, Yeezy did perform three songs. Up first for the Chicago artist was his latest single, "I Love It." Joined by Lil Pump, who was supposed to be in jail according to his own admission earlier this month, the two appeared on stage dressed as bottles of Perrier sparkling mineral water (Yeezy) and Fiji water (Pump).
Although "I Love It" is filled with explicit lyrics, 'Ye and Pump tried their best to keep the song clean by rapping, "You're such a freaky girl, I love it." But the self-censoring didn't last long as the two accidentally let out a few curse words on live TV.
For his second performance of the night, Kanye brought fellow G.O.O.D. Music artist Teyana Taylor to perform "We Got Love"—a track that didn't make the cut on her K.T.S.E. album. Unlike the "I Love It" performance, "We Got Love" was a bit more tame as Yeezy and Teyana shared the stage for the high-energy track.
But Kanye's night wasn't over yet. In a rare move, the rapper performed a third song, this time bringing out Kid Cudi and 070 Shake to perform "Ghost Town." Along with Cudi and Shake, Yeezy was also joined by Ty Dolla $ign on bass and Mike Dean on guitar.
While Yeezy's appearance on the show had been teased since earlier this month, series creator Lorne Michaels recently revealed the rapper wasn't their first choice for a musical guest. According to Michaels, singer Ariana Grande was set to guest star but dropped out for personal reasons.
"We had Ariana drop out for emotional reasons two days ago," he said. Fortunately for Michaels and the rest of the SNL crew, Yeezy was willing to step up on short notice. "That's our premiere, and then Kanye stepped up, and he'll be there," the SNL creator continued.
