This past Tuesday, the Middletown Board of Supervisors shot down Giant’s supermarket’s plan to add a beer and wine section to it’s Flowers Mill Shopping Center location in town. The vote was 3-1 against the Giant Food Stores’ request. They were looking to transfer their liquor license from Warrington to the Middletown store location.

Tom Tosti, Anna Payne and Dawn Quirple, all supervisors on the board, voted against the transfer.

Giant was planning on converting part of the front of the store, which is a deli prep area now, into a beer and wine section. The store wanted to also create a seating area where customers could taste as many as two beers and a glass of wine in the designated section.

Although the store’s company has a good standing with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, some concerns that were brought up was that the shopping center already houses a liquor store and a restaurant with a bar and that the addition of a wine and beer section in Giant would hurt another business in the shopping mall.
