Philadelphia’s Accent Named One of the Sexiest in America; New Jersey’s Accent… Not So Much

Though often mocked, the Philadelphia accent is apparently very sexy?

Big Seven Travel released a list of the sexiest accents in America, and Philadelphia’s accent came in at number eight on their list.

The sexiest accent in America? It’s Texas’ accent. Meanwhile, Boston and New York’s accents came in at number 2 and 3 respectively on the list.

Big Seven Travel said the accent is one of the most unique dialects of the world and said: “it’s a thick accent, but hey, if it’s good enough for Will Smith…”

Who can forget that Upper Darby’s Tina Fey has famously mocked the accent on Saturday Night Live:

In fact, Tina Fey returned to Saturday Night Live this past weekend to mock the Philadelphia accent with Emma Thompson and Amy Poehler during the opening monologue.

So what about New Jersey’s accent?

Well, it’s not nearly as sexy as Philadelphia apparently. New Jersey was named number 49 on the list (of 50) sexy accents. The authors joked that the Philadelphia/South Jersey accent isn’t close enough to bring up the overall sex appeal of the New Jersey accent. ​
