Philly Police Commissioner Ross Resigned due to Sexual Harrassment Allegations
This news right here shocked the city when it broke. Just today, Mayor Jim Kenney announced the immediate resignation of Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross.
Apparently Ross had multiple allegations against him of sexual harassment within the department. He is also being accused of gender and racial discrimination by his peer. Mayor Kenney made sure to note that these allegations don't necessary accuse the former commissioner, however he believes its in the department's best interest to let him go.
This situation is actually only part of a whole litigation surrounding the Philadelphia police department. According to Billypenn.com two female officers filed a civil lawsuit against the city back in July. Both women openly named Ross and 10 other officers as people who sexual harassed them in the workplace. These women also In filed charges of discrimination with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission back in April.
