Oh nooo. I just read the news on Levittown Now that the bright and cheery Sesame Place water tower that can be seen from I-295 in Middletown Township may be torn down soon.

The article says it's aging and hasn't been operational in years. The Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority is looking for bids to have it demolished.

Ugh. This is such a bummer. It's been there for as long as I can remember. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I look for it every single time I'm in the area...kind of like the Trenton Makes The World Takes Bridge.

My kids couldn't wait to point it out when we were in the area when they were little. You know how you get really excited to be near your favorite Jersey Shore town when you put your window down and smell the salt air or see the Ferris Wheel from a distance? Well, when they saw the Sesame Place Water tower, they knew fun was near. Long before I had kids, I always looked for it on the way home from Elizabethtown College...it was a sign that home was near.

The water tower has been a fun ad for the children's amusement park, based on the tv show since 1993. The design was painted on back then. In 2002, it got a vinyl update and won an award for it's ad. At the time it was the biggest vinyl-wrapped water tower in the country. Cool.

I hope it doesn't happen. If it does, I'm really going to miss seeing it.
