It’s been five weeks since her passing, but we’ve just learned what caused the death of beloved celebrity chef, Anne Burrell. After weeks of speculation and rumors, Burrell’s cause of death was revealed in report published by People Magazine on Thursday morning (July 24).

Anne Burrell’s Shocking Cause of Death Revealed

Anne Burrell, known for her years of work on the Food Network, died suddenly last month. The 55-year-old TV chef was found dead in her New York City Apartment on June 17th.

First, let’s review what happened when the story first broke:

First responders in New York City received a call around 7:50 a.m. that day after Burrell was discovered in the bathroom of her New York City apartment. The caller was concerned that Burrell had suffered cardiac arrest. First responders pronounced her dead on the scene.

Shortly after it was reported that her death was being investigated as a possible overdose. In the days that followed reports swirled that she was found with approximately 100 pills nearby, according to the New York City Police Department and the New York Times.

Anne Burrell Died of an Apparent Suicide

Anne Burrell’s cause of death has been declared a suicide. The news was confirmed and published by People Magazine late Thursday morning. Other outlets including NBC News and E! Online have since confirmed and reported the news too.

They say that her cause of death, which was determined by the New York City medical examiner’s office, was “specified as acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine."

For context, People.com reports that “Diphenhydramine and cetirizine are antihistamines, ethanol is a compound found in alcohol and amphetamine is commonly used to treat ADHD.”

Anne Burrell’s Family Declines to Comment

Burrell’s family, meanwhile, declined to comment on today’s news (so far).
When announcing her death last month, they described her as a beloved by many.”

"Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered," they said.
