Attention all Jersey commuters! You're in for a little bit of a shock this month. Don't be alarmed or surprised when you go to park your cars at the train station or bus park and ride lots and the price is higher.

As of September 1st, 32 different parking lots have increased their daily, monthly and quarterly parking rates. The amount that it goes up defends specifically on the parking lot. Prices could be anywhere from 50 cents more to two dollars.

The reason the Nj Transit has decided to do this was simply because they haven't had a price increase in over a decade. "Unfortunately, expenses associated with parking operations, including costs for maintenance, snow removal, utilities and insurance, have risen during that time, forcing the need for this increase.” said Lisa Torbic, an NJ Transit spokeswoman.

if this is coming as a major inconvenience to you, there are options put in place for you. NJ Transit suggest that you enroll in pre-tax transit benefits through your employer. . Gov. Phil Murphy signed a bill earlier this year, requiring employers with 20 or more employees to offer a pre-tax transit benefit, which includes parking costs.
