I had no idea there was such a thing as an official state amphibian! I knew each state had official birds, but an amphibian? I guess you learn something new every day. According to Yahoo, Pennsylvania has chosen their state amphibian and I've gotta say, it's one slimy looking thing!

So what is the official amphibian of Pennsylvania? A slimy salamander that is actually the biggest in North America called the Eastern hellbender. The salamander, nicknamed the snot otter, who is nocturnal and only comes out at night, was given its official title by Governor Tom Wolf earlier this week. Don't you just love his t-shirt?

In order for Pennsylvania's state amphibian to survive, it needs clean streams, so Pennsylvania is raising awareness for clean water to make sure that the snot otter can thrive and survive.
