While the improvements being made to the Scudder Falls Bridge should eventually improve traffic, the ongoing construction around the bridge continues to cause headaches for commuters in Mercer and Bucks Counties.

According to scudderfallsbridge.com, "the NJ Route 29 northbound bypass of the I-295/Route 29 interchange (Exit 76) on the New Jersey side of the Scudder Falls Toll Bridge" will close for at least one week starting Tuesday, Jan. 21.  Officials say the closure could last up to 3 weeks.

"During the roadway closure, affected traffic will be diverted through portions of the interchange’s new system of ramps and roundabouts for reconnection with Route 29 NB for travel toward Washington Crossing and Lambertville."

A detour map is posted here.

When completed, the Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project is projected to cost $534 million.  Improvements will include:

  • A New Scudder Falls Bridge
  • I-95/I-295 Roadway Improvements
  • Interchange Improvements
  • Noise-Abatement Walls
  • Bicycle and Pedestrian Path
  • All-Electronic Tolling System
