This month being Women’s History Month is a perfect time to get out and support women in the food industry.  There are three specific food events during the month where Philadelphia women chefs and restaurateurs have joined together to help with the James Beard Foundation fundraiser.

The first event coming up on March 11 is “One Book, Many Voices Community Dinner” where a family-style meal will be provided by chefs.  The meal will feature foods of the Americas and a discussion about indigenous traditions, which is connected to the Free Library’s One Book, One Philadelphia initiative.

On March 19, Les Dames d’Escoffier Philadelphia will have a screening a documentary about James Beard.  The film, “James Beard: America’s First Foodie,” will be followed by a reception at Fork in Old City.  Events by Les Dames seek to raise funds for scholarships for women looking to go into hospitality and agriculture careers.

On March 23, Philly Women in Food: Benefiting James Beard Foundation Women Initiatives will be held by restaurateur Ellen Yin and Lost Bread Co.’s Ana Caballero.  The tasting event will feature women restaurateurs, chefs, bakers, bartenders and cheese-makers.  All funding goes towards the James Beard Foundation’s women leadership initiatives.
