Last week, the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and the Economist practice at AECOM released the 2018 TEA/AECOM Theme Index and Museum Index.  Among other things, this annual report ranks theme parks based on attendance.

Disney had 8 of the top 10 highest attended theme parks in the world, including the #1 theme park, the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.

Taking a look at the highest attended theme parks in North America, it should come as no surprise that 14 of the top 20 are located in "warm weather" states, Florida and California, where parks are open year round.

So where does our closest theme park rank?  Six Flags Great Adventure was the 18th most attended theme park in North America with 3.4 million visitors in 2018.  It was Six Flags's second most attended park, behind Valencia, CA's Six Flags Magic Mountain (which ranked 16th overall in North America with just under 3.6 million visitors in 2018).

Meanwhile, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor was the 13th highest attended water park in North America with 475,000 visitors last year.  The only water park in the Northeast with more visitors last year was Splish Splash in Calverton, NY.
