The very popular clothing retailer, Primark, will be coming to Philadelphia soon. The Philadelphia Business Journal and NBC10 are reporting that Primark has signed a lease to join the newly developed Fashion District Philadelphia.

The store will be 34,200 square feet near the corners of 11th and Market in Philadelphia. Primark already operates a few stores in our area including stores in Freehold Raceway Mall, the King of Prussia Mall, and the Willow Grove Mall.

We’ll have to wait a little bit for the new Philadelphia store to open as the Philadelphia Business Journal reports the store will open sometime between September 2020 and September 2021.

Primark is an Irish based retailer that currently operates 372 stores across the globe. The retailer is often compared to other contemporary “fast fashion stores” such as Zara and H&M.

Essentially, they have trendy clothes at cheap prices, and as The Economist notes the styles and prices result in a new and faster kind of fashion, which “forces consumers to buy heaps of items sometimes even the same ones to use when the first ones worn out, discard them after a few wears and then come back for another batch of new outfits.”

Fashion District Philadelphia opened in September in the space previously known as the Galleries near 9th and Market in Center City. The shopping center is already home to retailers such as H&M, Hollister, and Express. Plus, a newly opened City Winery, and on Monday an AMC Dine-In Theater will open in the complex. More development is expected in the bustling shopping and entertainment center.
